MyLifeAsEva Digital Creator Eva Gutowski to Star in New YouTube Red Comedy Series “ME AND MY GRANDMA”(wt)
New Series Inspired by Hilarious Adventures with Her Grandma Arrives on the Heels of Gutowski’s Widely Successful YouTube Series How to Survive High School
LOS ANGELES – August 5, 2016 – YouTube Red today announced ME AND MY GRANDMA (working title), a half hour comedy series starring Eva Gutowski, also known as the popular online personality MyLifeAsEva. This new single-camera series is a multi-generational buddy comedy for millennials that tells the story of a twenty-one year-old girl and her sixty-something year-old grandma, together trying to make it big in Hollywood. The six-episode direct-to-series order will be distributed on the premium platform later this year.
Executive produced by Gutowski, SelectNext’s Adam Wescott and Scott Fisher, How to Survive High School writer Annie Stamell, alongside showrunner Jill Condon (whose producing credits include “Friends,” “The Cosby Show,” and “Grounded for Life,” among others), the series will target Gutowski’s highly engaged fan base as well as a broad multigenerational audience with longer-form, scripted content. The series co-creators Stamell and Gutowski previously partnered with SelectNext on the series How to Survive High School, which remains one of the most watched short-form scripted series on YouTube to date with over 43 Million Total Views as of July 2016.
“As a child growing up, my grandma and I had so many great adventures together and I am grateful that she is still a big part of my life today! I am excited for viewers to experience all the laughs I have shared with her but in a longer-form, scripted series!” Gutowski said in announcing the series.
“Eva’s comedic timing hits just the right note with fans, as we’ve seen from her wildly popular YouTube channel. This new project will give YouTube Red audiences more of that joy and laughter as Eva stars in this hilarious and unpredictable adventure,” added Susanne Daniels, Global Head of Original Content for YouTube.
In announcing the series, Adam Wescott said, “We’re thrilled to build off of the success of Eva and our short-form show to launch a more traditional half hour comedy. YouTube Red is the perfect platform to continue to evolve the level of content Eva shares with her audience and more. This show will tap into her existing audience of over 7 million subscribers and also appeal to a wider demo through its humor and characters—including Grandma.”
This new series marks the first foray into digital for the long-tenured Condon, whose diverse history in scripted television adds a layer of traditional media expertise to the project. “I’m so excited to bring my network television experience into the digital space and to collaborate with YouTube Red and Eva on this series. And, I’m looking forward to finally understanding what my kids are talking about,” said Jill Condon.
